I just watched episode 1 of Angel. (Thank God for Hulu! ♥) First off, OMG yay for Cordelia win. Second, goddamn Angel is such a boring dumbshit. Third: wait what? They're gonna start a business where they save peoples' lives and then possibly charge them money for the life-saving-ness if they have enough money to pay and wait Angel just walked upstairs in the middle of daytime and those windows should not be UV-safe and STOP WITH THE VAMPIRES IN SEMI-SUNLIGHT! I've been doing some light photo concrits lately, and I learned something about myself.

In art, people spend a lot of time talking about rules of form and layout. The horizon has to be straight. The image has to be balanced. The colors have to compliment each other. The subject of the photo has to be in focus. Avoid backlighting on portraits. Yes, there are times that all rules can be broken, but only if breaking these rules creates a statement, of sorts. Only if it's intentional.

I know these things. I can point them out. But it's not enough. I like to know why.

The horizon has to be straight because it grounds the viewer, puts them at ease, makes them feel stable. It's more comforting, safer. The image has to have balance because an unbalanced image is wasting space. If the eyes are drawn always to the right side of the picture, never in the center, never in the right, then why is that portion of the canvas even there? Why use so much space when you only needed half of it to convey the same thought? The colors have to compliment each other because it brings a sense of tranquility, a peace of sorts. If the picture is of a grassy green meadow and a beautiful tree, then that random orange object off to the side is an eyesore. It distracts from the focus.

I'm an artist. I have been since I was about 4 years old. But I like to know how the mind works. The psychologist in me doesn't let the artist do its thing. I have to know why.

Okay, that's it. This whole Ball-Jointed Doll thing? I could SO make bank with this. I mean, no life of luxury, but if I had a model to work off of, I could at least make pocket change or gas money. =/ I need to convince somebody with a doll to send me a duct tape dressform. Like, "I'll make you a dress. The only payment I need is for you to send me a dressform of your doll and $1.00 for postage to send the dress to you." Then I could mass-produce and sell for profit. And if I ever started making wigs, I might even be able to use my own hair. =x That doesn't sound creepy, does it...? But no, if I grow my hair out for a year and cut it, I could probably make like, 10 wigs out of one of my haircuts I've got so much hair! Uck. So many people that aren't half as good with a needle and thread as I am are selling stuff.

I feel the need to further my collection of inappropriate bedtime songs. So far all I've got is:

1) Rest In Peace - Buffy: the Vampire Slaver: Once More, With Feeling - which is actually more of a love/hate song, but... the prominant lyrics are sleepy-time friendly. ~~And of which I couldn't find the actual scene~~.
2) My Lullaby - Lion King II: Simba's Pride - in which Zira talks about war and murder and how it soothes and calms her.

So, open to suggestions - Lullabies, bedtime songs, or just songs that could be mistaken for them. Bonus points for soundtracks. Okay, ready... GO!

Me: Well, my initial response would have been to say "yes," but I might have just been programmed in that Spock is the Vulcan... Then again, he would have been about *gestures* that big, then, so--
